What will we create in Mini Workshop!

 2-Hour Mini Wax Workshop

You’ll create one finished encaustic artwork on a 6×6" or 5×7" panel with one-on-one guidance. This session focuses on a single technique such as collage, nature reliefs, photo transfer, or simple representational work.

4-Hour Encaustic Studio Workshop

You’ll create an encaustic piece on an 8×10", 8×8", or two smaller panels. The extended time allows you to combine techniques, build more layers, and work at a relaxed pace while still choosing a main focus. One-on-one guidance is provided throughout.

Creative Approach

Guests choose their own subject matter—this is not a step-by-step group project. Jessie encourages participants to work on imagery or themes they feel personally connected to.

  • For representational encaustic painting, guests must send Jessie a reference photo ahead of time so it can be prepared for studio use.
  • Collage and photo-transfer projects often incorporate nature-inspired imagery, but guests are also welcome to explore contemporary, abstract, or personal designs.
  • The studio environment supports creative freedom, experimentation, and individual expression.

Planning Your Project Before the Workshop

Jessie will personally reach out to each guest prior to the workshop for a brief conversation about what they would like to create.

This ensures that your project, subject matter, and technique are fully planned before you arrive.

  • Guests will indicate on the waiver how they prefer to be contacted: email, text, or phone call. Jessie will use your selected communication method to discuss your ideas, reference images, and technique goals so no workshop time is spent deciding what to make.
  • All techniques and project plans are confirmed in advance so the full workshop time is dedicated to creating.

What’s Included

  • All encaustic materials (wax, paints, medium, tools, brushes)
  • Panels in the sizes listed above
  • Use of studio equipment and heated tools
  • Protective materials and workspace setup
  • One-on-one instruction tailored to your technique choice

Skill Level

No experience is required. These sessions are designed for:

  • Beginners wanting to try encaustic for the first time
  • Returning students building skills
  • Artists exploring mixed-media techniques
  • Anyone looking for a relaxing, creative studio experience

Expectations

  • You’ll choose your technique on your required waiver
  • This is an open studio format—not a step-by-step group project
  • Each student works on their own piece at their own pace
  • Jessie circulates to offer individual guidance
  • The studio is warm (due to heated wax), relaxed, and welcoming
  • Most guests leave with a finished piece and plenty of inspiration

Time Limits Matter

Because encaustic requires heating, layering, and fusing, time plays an important role in what can be accomplished.

  • The 2-hour session is best for a single technique, small panels, and simpler imagery.
  • The 4-hour session provides the time needed for building layers, combining techniques, or working on more detailed or representational artwork.
