Creative Approach
Guests choose their own subject matter—this is not a step-by-step group project. Jessie encourages participants to work on imagery or themes they feel personally connected to.
- For representational encaustic painting, guests must send Jessie a reference photo ahead of time so it can be prepared for studio use.
- Collage and photo-transfer projects often incorporate nature-inspired imagery, but guests are also welcome to explore contemporary, abstract, or personal designs.
- The studio environment supports creative freedom, experimentation, and individual expression.
- The studio is a relaxed and welcoming space and most guests leave with a finished piece and plenty of inspiration.
Planning Your Project Before the Workshop
- Jessie will personally reach out to each guest prior to the workshop for a brief conversation about what they would like to create. This ensures that your project, subject matter, and technique are fully planned before you arrive and no workshop time is spent deciding what to create.
- Guests will indicate on the waiver how they prefer to be contacted: email, text, or phone call.
- All techniques and project plans are confirmed in advance.
STUDIO NOTES
- The studio will get warm (due to heated wax)
- Buzz in Art Studios is not ADA accessible. The studio was built before the 1930s- the entrance has three stairs and the bathroom entrance is narrow and not ADA accessible.
- Wear appropriate clothing: Aprons are provided. Wax is difficult to remove from clothing. Avoid open-toed shoes due to hot wax drips.
Time Limits Matter
Because encaustic requires heating, layering, and fusing, time plays an important role in what can be accomplished. If you would like ample time, the 4-hour workshops provide the time needed for building layers, combining techniques, and getting more detailed.
