Wax & Leaf Workshop using the “Cavo-Relievo” technique: Hollow relief in Italian.
The process of embedding an object like a fresh leaf or bird feather into warm wax to leave an impression of the object on the wax surface.
- Leaves are supplied but guests can bring their own fresh leaves to work with.
- Dry and brittle leaves will not work for this process. Hardy leaves with strong veins that can lay flat work best for this process. Examples: maple, cedar, oak, coleus, and ginkgo leaves work great. Ferns are amazing, but they are also difficult to execute.
- No succulent leaves. We press the leaf into the wax, so thick and juicy plants will squish and won’t leave a dramatic impression.
- Keep leaf sizes under 7-5”.
- After picking fresh leaves, please keep cool, moist, and press flat if possible until the workshop. We do not want the leaves to start to curl up on edges.
